Why are there so many different PPG numbers for Honda codes? How do I know which to use?
T. Payne, Columbus OH
Honda issues multiple standards for many colors, often a different standard from each of their manufacturing facilities. Honda identifies the manufacturing facilities and correlating standards with an "Alpha" or "Numeric" Plant Code (see chart below). PPG assigns a separate formula number to each standard using Honda's plant codes to link the correct color formulas to the corresponding vehicles.
In some situations Honda's plant code may not be easy to identify on the vehicles paint tag. You can also find the plant code by referring to the 11th digit of the VIN number to determine which PPG code is needed to complete the vehicle repair.
